A vast majority of people think that it is mainly guys that play video games. Actually, 40% of all video game sales are made to girls. Because of this impression, when you are a gamer girl you might face some challenges. Sometimes people assume that just because you are a girl you cannot play well. That is not true, and actually, many girls are good.
There are girls that play video games just to impress guys. Senior Lauren Skalla says, “I don’t mind other girls that play, but I mind the ones that make a point that they play.” However, generally if you meet a girl gamer, she plays because she wants to. Sometimes girls even play under the pretense of being a guy so that they aren’t judged.
So, you still want to be a gamer girl? Great! First, you need to decide what kind of game you want to play. Senior Xandra Prestia-Turner plays “League of Legends, it’s a role playing game and there are so many styles of game play.” Role playing, shooter, consol, pc, live vs. not live or old school games are just a few types out there. Lauren’s favorite games are “Kingdom Hearts and World of Warcraft, I like W.O.W. because it’s fun to interact with other people. I like Kingdom Hearts for the storyline.”
Girl gamers make awesome friends and girlfriends because they are fine with staying inside to game, instead of always having to go out. Xandra says, “Girls who play video games have a lot more personality, they’re quirky, outgoing, seem to know how to talk to guys, I mean there are a lot more guys playing so you have to.” The benefits of being a girl who plays video games, greatly out way any negatives.
