At the end of her High School career, Senior Xandra Prestia-Turner has made her way to the National CSU Vocalist Competition semi-finalist. She performed a selection of two songs “Art is calling for me” and “Ich Liebe Dich.” She will be heading to Chicago in May for her second round of performing.
When asked about how well her performance was Xandra Turner said, “I did well but I don’t think I’ll move past round two… The competition is really good.” The Competition has three sections state, semi-final national, and finals.
The reward for this competition is a grand scholarship of $10,000-$20,000. This scholarship is valid for use at any college. The competition has three finalist scholarship recipients. The scholarship recipients receive the same rough amount for performing.
When asked about the competition Xandra said, “It’s really competitive and my competition for this is really talented.”
The competition includes young performers from different colleges and high schools from around the country. There are hundreds of performers that enter the competition yearly. Six from each state are selected to perform at nationals. Half of the semi-finalists move on.
“The competition as a whole is really fun to do and it’s amazing how much talent there is in singing in operatic voices,” says Turner.
The competition will take place in Chicago in early May. Xandra is now preparing for her next competition the TASHO national scholarship and NATS at Metro State University.
