Northglenn High School Student council is very proud to have gotten the opportunity to celebrate Valentine’s Day with the Special Needs kids. Our very own StuCo worked very hard to throw a Valentine’s themed party to let the Special Needs kids know that we as a school care about them, and they too should be involved.

Student Council Advisor and a former Counselor at Northglenn, Lindsay Bentz said, “Through the party everyone in StuCo got to get to know a group of really awesome students who some of our members say are their favorite kids in the whole school and we hopefully provided them a fun lunch and I think everyone made some new friends!”

It was a great experience with a great outcome. They got to communicate with the Special Needs kids as well as form new friendships. For an hour, regular students like you, were able to put their differences aside and go into it with an open mind and learn something new. StuCo’s only goal was to put a smile on these kids’ faces, and with that, they know they had done their job.

Sophomore, Chris Haynes said, “We were just kickin’ it having fun!”

The Valentine’s party was full of pizza and treats as well as music and conversation. Each Special Needs kid received a personalized goody bag full of candy and fun things. The idea of the party was to break down the barrier that separates the Special Needs from everyday students. They wanted them to get involved, and feel like they belong because they too represent the school as a mighty Norse. They can do everything that we can do, and that shouldn’t make them different. They are a part of our school, they are our peers, and they are our friends.
