The girl’s softball team is back for another season. Unfortunately, they lost a heart-breaking season opener against Monarch yesterday.

The game proceeded to extra innings after being tied at 7-7 during the seventh inning. Despite Northglenn’s hardest efforts, Monarch was able to pull out a win.

Even though Northglenn lost, starting pitcher, Kelsey Sellars, was recorded with nine total strikeouts. Senior Cecelia Knapp, the lead-off batter, scored three runs and Nicole Hilverding, the next up, scored four.

“We want to have a good season, we have some great new talent, and I think we’re looking really good this year,” said Knapp.

Some of the new talent comes in the form of April Riggins, Northglenn’s new freshman catcher. At the game, she gunned a throw down the third base line to throw out a base runner.

“She’s a beast, and she has a really great arm,” said senior Jordan Cleppe.

The team is going to work as hard as they can this year in hopes of putting together a winning season.
